Firewire Cable
Mainly used for digital audio and video transfer, FireWire is a common method for transferring information from camcorders to other related devices. It was first developed by Apple Computer Inc and is also known by its patent name of IEEE1394. If a device is described as being 1394-compatible, it uses FireWire for connections.
Every camcorder that you can buy has a FireWire socket which makes it possible for you to transfer video footage to a compatible computer, a digital videocassette recorder or another camcorder. Additional computer devices, such as hard disk drives and signal converters, can also use FireWire.
You can connect FireWire devices with three different types of connecting cables:
- Four Pin to Four Pin plugs: used to connect camcorders to computers with small FireWire (iLink) sockets.
- Four Pin to Six Pin plugs: used to connect camcorders to computers with a larger six pin socket.
- Six Pin to Six Pin plugs: used to connect external devices to a computer, such as disk drive units.
FireWire is widely considered to be the best method by which to transfer footage from camcorder to computer and then back again. FireWire: available from LINDY today.
