DisplayPort Adapters Keep Monitors In the Picture

We announced today a range of DisplayPort adapters that eliminate the need for users to upgrade their monitor when buying a new PC. Available in three models, the adapters convert the DisplayPort connector to support DVI, HDMI or VGA, enabling users to connect older style screens with ease.

A digital video interface connection designed to replace the current DVI standard, DisplayPort is mainly used as a computer interface. However, unlike a few years ago when it was common to buy a new monitor at the same time as upgrading a computer, users now frequently just change their PC leaving potentially an incompatibility between the PC and monitor interface.

Financial restraints and a desire to reuse rather than throw away have driven the demand in adapters generally and the new DisplayPort which is currently being introduced by the major PC manufacturers is no different. Compared with cost of a new monitor, DisplayPort adapters are an affordable solution that saves the consumer money and the environment.

All three adapters support video-mirroring and extended desktop modules, and are compliant with DisplayPort 1.1 specification. Both the DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter and the DVI Adapter supports PC resolutions up to UXGA and HDTV up to 1080, whilst the VGA adapter supports greater than QXGA resolutions at 24-bit colour depth.
