LINDY Launches Power over eSATAp Cables

We announced today a range of Power over eSATAp Cables that will help users get the most out of their eSATAp portable devices. Whilst eSATA is growing in popularity for external hard drives, not least because its interface is one of the fastest available today, the downside has been the requirement of a separate power supply making the drive far from portable or easy to use.

Available in 1 or 2m lengths, the LINDY Power over eSATAp cables offer different connector combinations depending on the users need. Integrated into the eSATAp cable is either a USB connector for power and additional data transfer or a mini USB connector to provide power. In addition, for the very latest Power over eSATAp technology, LINDY produces a cable that combines eSATAp and USB data transfer and power into a single connector.

eSATA with its fast interface was originally tipped to be a major competitor to USB based devices. However in practice, users were typically willing to sacrifice the speed gains than spend their time searching for a free power socket or lugging around a separate power supply. With the introduction of Power over eSATAp it will be interesting to see how it competes over the next eighteen months with USB 3.0.

With notebook manufactures such as Dell and Lenovo already starting to include Power over eSATAp and USB combination ports, fast, portable external storage just became a lot easier.
